CIO Departure at Caterpillar

Caterpillar announced that John Heller, 57, has retired from his role as CIO. Heller held various roles during his 35 year career at Caterpillar, including VP of the Global Information Services Division, Systems Manager for Corporate Information Services, Information Systems Manager for Switzerland, and Director of the Systems & Processes Division.

Financial Transaction Processing Company Loses CIO

Heartland Payment Systems announced that Steven Elefant, 52, is resigning from his position as CIO. Before assuming the title of CIO, he served as a consultant at the company. Prior to joining Heartland, Elefant was a Managing Director of Soaring Ventures, a venture capital and consulting firm. He has also served as a Venture Partner at Claremont Creek Ventures. Additionally, Elefant has been an active member of the U.S. Secret Service Electronic Crimes Task Force.

New CTO at Nokia


Henry Tirri has been named as Nokia’s new CTO. Prior to this appointment, he served as the SVP & Head of Nokia Research Center. In addition to these positions, Tirri has been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Helsinki for over a decade. In the past, he has served on the Advisory Board at Nexit Ventures, a mobile venture capital company, and as a Director of Ekahau, a leader in Wi-Fi based tracking solutions.

Internet Phone Company Announces CTO Departure


NetTalk.com announced that Leo Manzewitsch, 47, has resigned as CTO. Before NetTalk, he served as the CTO of Interlink Global Corporation. Manzewitsch has also held sales support management positions with UT Starcom, a global leader in internet protocol television, and NEC Corporation, a provider of Internet, broadband network, and enterprise business solutions. Prior to NEC, he served as the Marketing Manager for Tellabs International.

Marsh & McLennan Head of IT Joins Insurance Developer


Ashley Franco has joined Ebix as the new VP of Technology. Before this appointment, Franco was the VP of Global IT for Marsh & McLennan companies. She has also served as a Senior Sales Engineer at Skywire Software and as a Director of Field Technology at Integrated Insurance Technologies.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults, garage.ca, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
