HP Fires CEO/Board Member

HP announced that Leo Apotheker, 58, has been relieved of his duties as President, CEO & Director. Before joining HP, he was the CEO of SAP AG. Meg Whitman, 55, has been named as Apotheker’s replacement. Prior to joining HP, Whitman served as President & CEO of eBay from 1998 to 2008. She has also held senior positions at Hasbro, Stride Rite, and FTD.

Three New Board Members at Dell

Janet Clark, 56, the EVP, Treasurer, & CFO of Marathon Oil, has been selected to serve on Dell’s Audit Committee. In the past, Clark has served as SVP & CFO for Nuevo Energy and as CFO & EVP of Corporate Development and Administration at Santa Fe Snyder.

Ken Duberstein, 67, the current Chairman & CEO of The Duberstein Group, has been appointed to the Board's Governance and Nominating Committee. Duberstein served as a key member of the Reagan Administration as White House Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, and Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs. In 1989, he was awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal by President Reagan. Duberstein also serves as a director on the boards of the Boeing Company, ConocoPhillips, and the Travelers Companies.

Laura Conigliaro, 65, a former Partner at Goldman Sachs, has joined the Board's Finance Committee. At Goldman Sachs, she was codirector of the firm's Americas Equity Research unit and was on the Compensation Policy Committee. Prior to Goldman Sachs, Conigliaro served as a computer and design automation analyst at Prudential and as an intelligence analyst at the National Security Agency.

Swiss Exec on CA Board


CA Technologies announced that Jens Alder, 54, has been elected to its Board of Directors. Alder currently serves as the Chairman of Sanitas Krankenversicherung, one of Switzerland's largest health insurers, and RTX Telecom, a telecommunications component and handset producer based in Denmark. He also serves as Chairman of Industrielle Werke Basel, an industrial utility company based in Switzerland. Additionally, Alder is the Lead Advisor for IT Governance to the Swiss Minister of Defence and to the Swiss Chief of the Armed Forces. Earlier in his career, Alder served as CEO of TDC, Swisscom, and Alcatel Switzerland.

Venture Capitalist on Board of EA


Electronic Arts announced that Jay Hoag, 52, has been appointed to EA's Board of Directors. He has also been appointed to EA's Executive Compensation and Leadership Committee. Hoag is a founding General Partner at Technology Crossover Ventures (TCV), a leading provider of growth capital to technology companies. Currently, he serves on the board of directors for eHarmony, TechTarget, Zillow, and Netflix. Prior to founding TCV, Hoag was MD at Chancellor Capital Management.

Former EMC Exec on Progress Board


Progress Software announced the appointment of John Egan, 53, to the company's Board of Directors. Egan is a Managing Partner of Egan-Managed Capital, a Boston-based venture capital fund he founded in 1998 that specializes in technology and early stage investments. Before starting Egan-Managed Capital, he served in a number of executive positions at EMC, including EVP of Products and Offerings, EVP of Sales and Marketing, EVP of Operations, and EVP of International Sales. Egan also serves on the board of directors at EMC, VMWare, NetScout Systems, HighRoads, Platform Computing, and Healthrageous.

Former Polycom CEO on the Board at Plantronics


Plantronics, a wireless headset maker, announced the appointment of Bob Hagerty, 59, to its Board of Directors. He will also serve as the Chair of the M&A and Strategy committees and as a member of the Nominating and Governance Committee. Hagerty was most recently the CEO, President, & Chairman of Polycom. Prior to joining Polycom, he served as President of Stylus Assets and held senior management positions at Logitech, Conner Peripherals, Signal, and Digital Equipment. Hagerty is currently an advisor and board member for several companies, including Smart Technology, Eye IO, and Vibare.

Investment Management Software Company Recruits Board Member


Advent Software announced the appointment of Asiff Hirji, 45, to its Board of Directors. In the past, Hirji has served as a Partner at TPG Capital, a global private investment firm. Prior to TPG Capital, he was President of TD Ameritrade Holding Company, COO of TD Ameritrade, and CIO of Ameritrade. Hirji also served as VP & Partner at Bain & Company and as President of Meralix. Hirji currently serves on Citrix Systems’ Board of Directors.

Director Leaves Quantum Board


Dennis Wolf has announced his resignation from his position on the Board of Directors at Quantum. Currently, Wolf serves as EVP & CFO of Fusion-io, a provider of flash memory components. Prior to joining Fusion-io, he was EVP, COO, & CFO at Finjan Software and EVP & CFO at MySQL. Prior to MySQL, he held financial management positions for public high technology companies, including Credence Systems, Centigram, Apple, and Sun Microsystems. He currently serves on the Board and as the Chair of the Audit Committee at Codexis.

Online Search Company Gets New Board Member


InfoSpace announced that it has appointed Andrew Snyder, 40, the current CEO of Cambridge Information Group (CIG), to its Board of Directors. In addition to this appointment, he will head a newly-created M&A committee. Prior to joining CIG, Snyder was a VP at Goldman Sachs. He also serves as a director for RR Bowker, ProQuest, Navtech, and The Association of American Publishers.

Former HP Exec on Saba Board

Saba Software, a learning and talent management provider, announced the addition of Nora Denzel, 49, to its Board of Directors. Currently, she is the SVP of Marketing at Intuit, a company which provides cloud financial management software and services. Prior to her experience at Intuit, Denzel served as the SVP of Software at HP, SVP of Product Operations at Legato Systems, and held several engineering and marketing positions at IBM.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members.
