Steve Jobs Relinquishes CEO Role at Apple; Replacement Announces First Promotion Decision
Apple announced that Steve Jobs, 56, has resigned as CEO of the company. He will continue to serve the company in his new role as Chairman of the Board. Former Apple COO Tim Cook, 50, has assumed the role of CEO. Prior to joining Apple, Cook was the VP of Corporate Materials for Compaq. He came to Compaq from Intelligent Electronics, where he served as COO of the computer reseller division. Cook has also worked at IBM, most recently as the Director of North American Fulfilment.
Cook has promoted iTunes VP Eddy Cue to SVP of Internet Software and Services. Cue will remain in charge of iTunes and iCloud in addition to assuming responsibility for Apple’s iAds platform. He will report directly to Cook and will serve on Apple’s executive management team. Cue has been with Apple for more than 20 years.
Former T-Mobile EVP as SVP at Qualcomm
Qualcomm announced that Anastassia Lauterbach has joined the company as SVP of Global Business Operations Europe. Dr. Lauterbach joins Qualcomm from Deutsche Telekom, where she most recently served as SVP of Business Development and Investments and as a member of Deutsche Telekom's Executive Technology and Innovations Board. Prior to joining Deutsche Telekom, Lauterbach served as Acting Chief Products and Innovation Officer and EVP of Group Strategy at T-Mobile International. Before T-Mobile, she held a variety of operational and strategic roles at Daimler, McKinsey, and Munich Reinsurance Company.
Telecom Expert Joins Polycom
Polycom announced the appointment of Navin Mehta as SVP of Global Services. Mehta will be responsible for driving Polycom's global services strategy and expanding its portfolio of service offerings. Prior to joining Polycom, Mehta was VP of Professional and Application Services at Motorola Networks. He has also held executive services positions at Nokia Siemens Networks, Comverse, Nortel Networks, and Compaq.
Former CA & EMC Exec at Acme Packet; SVP Assumes New Title
Acme Packet, a networking equipment manufacturer, selected Marianne Budnik to be the company’s Chief Marketing Officer. Budnik joins Acme Packet from CA Technologies where she served as CMO. Prior to joining CA Technologies, she held a series of leadership positions at EMC, including VP of Global Field Marketing and Programs, Senior Director of Marketing Operations and Strategic Planning, and Director of Software Product Marketing.
The company also announced that announced that Seamus Hourihan, 57, has been named SVP of Corporate Strategy. Previously, Hourihan served as the company's SVP of Product Management and Marketing. Prior to joining Acme Packet, he was the VP of Marketing for Pingtel, a provider of SIP products and technology.
Former Polycom CEO on the Board at Plantronics
Plantronics, a wireless headset maker, announced the appointment of Bob Hagerty, 59, to its Board of Directors. He will also serve as the Chair of the M&A and Strategy committees and as a member of the Nominating and Governance committee. Hagerty was most recently the CEO, President, & Chairman of Polycom. Prior to joining Polycom, he served as President of Stylus Assets and held senior management positions at Logitech, Conner Peripherals, Signal, and Digital Equipment. Hagerty is currently an advisor and board member for several companies, including Smart Technology, Eye IO, and Vibare.
Industry Veteran Joins Transmission Equipment Company
Sonus Networks announced the appointment of industry veteran Maurice Castonguay, 59, as its SVP & CFO. Throughout his 30-plus year career, Castonguay has been instrumental in guiding private and publicly held companies through periods of rapid change and growth. Prior to Sonus, he was the EVP of Finance and CFO of Broadbus Technologies. Before joining Broadbus, Castonguay served as CFO & SVP of Bigband Networks, CFO & EVP of Finance at Acopia Networks, CFO & SVP of Finance & Administration at Dassault Systems Enovia, and VP of Finance & CFO of Stratus Computer.
