We endeavor to catalog all open technology CEO roles (as of 2/28/2018) and latest appointments for the month of February 2018.   

The average length of time the searches are open is 5.2 months, up from 4.4 months last month. There is little variance across geographies

  • New CEO Appointments: 41 CEO roles filled
    - Gender Diversity:  3 women or 7%, 38 men

New Tech CEO Openings: 5 - Vocus Group (Australia), Proact IT Group AB (Sweden), Mycronic AB (Sweden), Isentia Group (Australia), and DataPath (GA).

15% of the CEOs appointed were Chairman or Board Members, 12% were COOs or President or EVP - Operations, iCEOs were 2%, divisional execs promoted were 5%, 12% other internal executives and 54% external appointments.   


Diversity: 3 (7%) CEOs out of 41 total CEOs appointed were women.   

The two longest CEO searches started in June and September 2016.

Tech CEO Roles Open As of February 28th, 2018

The United States & Canada 

HSN, Florida, April 2017 - CEO Mindy Grossman has resigned. The Board has established an Office of the CEO.

Equifax, Georgia, September 2017 - Chairman and CEO Richard Smith would step aside following massive data breach. Paulino do Rego Barros Jr. named interim leader as the board searches for a successor. 

Convergys Corporation, Ohio, January 2018 - President and CEO Andrea Ayers will transition from her role following a nearly 30-year career at the Company. Ayers will continue to lead the Company in her current role President and CEO, as well as a member of the Board, as long as necessary for transition purposes.

Nuance Communications, Massachusetts, November 2016 - Chairman and CEO Paul Ricci intends to retire at the end of first half of fiscal 2018. 

Match Group, Texas, November 2017 - Match Group is actively recruiting to fill the CEO positions at PlentyOfFish. Hesam Hosseini, currently CEO of PlentyOfFish, will become CEO of Match and Match Affinity Brands.

SMART Global Holdings, California, November 2017 - CEO Iain MacKenzie has decided to transition to a revised role during the 2018 calendar year, but will remain on the board. It is anticipated that a search for a new CEO will commence in the near future. 

Five9, California, November 2017 - Mike Burkland, Chairman, President and CEO, will be transitioning to become executive chairman. In October, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and will be undergoing aggressive treatment over the next several months. The board has named Barry Zwarenstein, the company’s CFO, to the additional post of Interim CEO while a search for a permanent CEO commences.

Sigma Designs, California, January 2018 - Sigma Designs' President & CEO Thinh Tran has resigned. Mr. Elias Nader, Sigma's current SVP and CFO, has been appointed as interim President and CEO.

Marchex, Washington, October 2016 - Pete Christothoulou resigned as CEO in October last year. 

Edgewater Technology, Massachusetts, March 2017 - Chairman Jeffrey L. Rutherford is Interim President and CEO. 

Absolute Software, British Columbia, Canada, January 2018 - Absolute Software named Steve Munford, an accomplished cybersecurity industry leader, as interim CEO. Absolute’s former CEO, Geoff Haydon, resigned as both CEO and member of the Board.

Numerex, Georgia, January 2017 - Numerex terminated the employment of Marc Zionts as CEO. CFO Kenneth Gayronis interim CEO.  

Support.com, California, October 2016 – Dr. Elizabeth M. Cholawsky as president and CEO. Richard Bloom is iCEO.

Westell Technologies, Illinois, November 2017 - Chairman Kirk R. Brannock has been appointed interim President and CEO. The Board intends to conduct a search for a permanent CEO.

Xceligent, Missouri, October 2017 - Jody Vanarsdale, Xceligent’s COO, will take on the role of Acting CEO.

Cartesian, Kansas, November 2017 - Peter Woodward provided formal notice to Cartesian that he will resign from his position as CEO.

Apivio Systems, BC, Canada, May 2017 - Apivio Systems appointed Ms. Elizabeth Park as interim President and CEO.

Blancco Technology Group, Georgia, September 2017 - Pat Clawson, CEO, has decided to step down. Interim CFO Simon Herrick, will become CEO on an interim basis.

CCUR Holdings, Georgia, January 2018 - Derek Elder's role as president and CEO of the company will terminate and he will cease to be a member of the company's board.

Dealnet Capital, Ontario, Canada, October 2017 - The company has commenced the search for a new CEO following the decision by the company to replace the current CEO, Mr. Michael Hilmer.

Brekford, Maryland, November 2016 - Brekford entered into a separation agreement with C.B. Brechin, the company's CEO and CFO. 

Digiliti Money, Minnesota, August 2017 - Jeffrey Mack has resigned as President and CEO. EVP & CFO, Bryan Meier, will assume the position of interim CEO.

IDT Telecom, New Jersey, December 2017 - Abilio (Bill) Pereira, who currently serves as CEO of IDT Telecom was provided termination.

MassRoots, Colorado, December 2017 - Scott Kveton resigned as CEO of the company. Kveton had sold his startup, Odava, to MassRoots in July in a deal worth about $1.6 million, and was later named CEO.

MMRGlobal, California, June 2017 - Robert H. Lorsch, Chairman, President and CEO of the company, died unexpectedly.

Lavu, New Mexico, June 2016 - Marc Chesley has stepped down as the CEO of Lavu. 

INTREorg Systems, Texas - June 2017 - David M. Beach tendered his resignation as president, CEO and a director. 

International Card Establishment, California, July 2017 - Payment company International Card Establishment appointed Kelani Long iCEO & Director.

Kickstarter, New York, July 2017 - Kickstarter co-founder Yancey Strickler is stepping down as CEO of the innovative crowdfunding company later this year. Kickstarter is now actively looking for a replacement.

Ancestry.com, Utah, September 2017 - Ancestry.com CEO Tim Sullivan is stepping down. CFO and COO Howard Hochhauser assumed the role of interim CEO as the company conducts a search for a permanent replacement.

Birch Communications, Georgia, October 2017 - Birch Communications announced the departure of President and CEO Tony Tomae.

comScore, Virginia, October 2017 - Dr. Gian Fulgoni its Co-Founder and CEO, intends to retire as CEO. The Board has formed a committee to direct the search for a new CEO. The Committee will retain a leading executive search firm to assist in identifying and evaluating both internal and external candidates for the CEO role.

Bolste, Arizona, October 2017 - Founder Leif Hartwig has stepped down from his position as CEO, but will continue to serve on the board. Current Board member Kenneth Waters will serve in the role of Interim CEO until a permanent successor has been named.

AdColony, California, December 2017 - Otello announced the departure of AdColony's CEO, Will Kassoy. Lars Boilesen, Otello CEO, will act as interim CEO for AdColony while the company searches for his permanent replacement. 

DataPath, Georgia, February 2018 - DataPath announced that its Chairman of the Board, Chris Melton, will step in as interim CEO, after its current President and CEO, David Myers, announced his plans to step down in February 2018.

Europe, Middle East & Africa 

Proact IT Group AB, Sweden, February 2018 - Jason Clark has chosen to resign from his position as CEO. The company has initiated a recruitment process of a new CEO. The Board has decided to appoint Peter Javestad, as acting CEO, to lead the company's operations.

Mycronic AB, Sweden, February 2018 - Lena Olving will leave as President and CEO during 2019. The process to find a successor has begun. 

Independent News & Media plc, Ireland, October 2017 - Secretary and Chief Risk Officer Michael Doorly named as interim Group CEO, replacing outgoing CEO Robert Pitt.

Ellies Holdings Limited, South Africa, November 2017 - Wayne Samson resigned as CEO. The board says a further announcement, regarding the appointment of a new CEO, will be released in due course.

Pricer AB, Sweden, April 2017 - CFO Helena Holmgren has been appointed acting CEO until a new CEO has been recruited. 

Catena Media Plc, Malta, October 2017 - Catena Media appointed Henrik Persson Ekdahl as acting CEO as Robert Andersson leaves as CEO.

Earthport plc, United Kingdom, December 2017 - Earthport plc announces that CEO Hank Uberoi will become Executive Chairman and the Board has initiated a search for a new CEO. Phil Hickman, currently Non-Executive Chairman of the Board, has agreed to act as interim CEO.

Brady Plc, UK, September 2016 - After nine years CEO Gavin Lavelle has decided to pursue new opportunities. Ian Jenks will assume operational control of the company as executive chairman. 

Dods Group PLC, United Kingdom, November 2017 - Guy Cleaver, CEO, has resigned. The Board is currently seeking to appoint a new CEO.

Escher Group Holdings, Ireland, January 2018 - Liam Church, CEO, notified that he will retire at the end of May 2018. During the next few months, Liam will work with the Board to ensure an orderly handover to a replacement CEO.

SysGroup plc, United Kingdom, November 2017 - SysGroup plc announced that Chris Evans, CEO, has, due to longstanding health issues, will step down. A process is undertaken to appoint a permanent successor.

Porting Access BV, Netherlands, December 2017 - PortingXS has appointed Eric van Mieghem its interim CEO. Van Mieghem succeeds Ronald Vlasman, who died in August. Van Mieghem is the founder of The Vision Web. 

Asia Pacific

StarHub Ltd., Singapore, November 2017 - CEO Tan Tong Hai will step down from his position. The group said it is engaged in a global executive search for a new CEO.

Vocus Group, Australia, February 2018 - Group CEO Geoff Horth will be leaving the company. The role of Interim Group CEO will be assumed by Michael Simmons, Vocus current Chief Executive of its Wholesale & International Division, and previous Chief Executive of the (former) Vocus Enterprise & Wholesale division.

Domain Holdings Australia, Australia, January 2018 - The Board of Domain Holdings Australia announced that it has accepted the resignation of Antony Catalano as CEO. A domestic and international search for a new CEO is commencing.

J-Devices Corporation, Japan, November 2017 - Yoshifumi Nakaya notified parent company Amkor Technology of his intention to retire as President & CEO of J-Devices at the end of 2017. The company expects to announce Mr. Nakaya's succession plan concurrently with the effective date of his retirement.

Isentia Group, Australia, February 2018 - Isentia Group Limited announced the resignation of its Managing Director and CEO John Croll. An external search for a replacement commenced immediately.

SQS India BFSI Limited, India, January 2018 - Ms. Aarti Arvind resigned as Managing Director & CEO of the company due to personal reasons.

Xchanging Solutions, India, October 2017 - Ramaswamy Sankaranarayanan Kavalapara named as interim managing director cum interim CEO.

Seeing Machines Limited, Australia, January 2018 - Seeing Machines Limited announced that CEO Mike McAuliffe is leaving the company. Executive Chairman Ken Kroeger has now been appointed as interim CEO by the board until the recruitment of a new CEO is finalized.

Stargroup Limited, Australia, December 2017 - Todd Zani has stepped down from his role as CEO of group and is accordingly no longer employed by the company. Mr. Zani will not work-out his notice period.

Anixter International, Illinois - Robert J. Eck will retire as CEO at the end of June 2018. President and COO William A. Galvin will become President and CEO.

Diebold Nixdorf, Ohio - Gerrard Schmid will join the company as its president, CEO and Director. As CEO, Schmid led the transformation of D+H Corp.

Intellicheck, New York - Intellicheck appointed Bryan Lewis as President & CEO. Former COO of  of Third Bridge, a provider of market information to private equity and hedge funds.

Black Knight, Florida - Black Knight announced that Anthony Jabbour will assume the role as the company’s CEO. Current CEO Tom Sanzone will become the company’s Vice Chairman of the Board. Jabbour was most recently the COO of Fidelity National Information Services.

Avid Technology, Massachusetts - Avid Technology appointed President Jeff Rosica as CEO.

Omnitracs, Texas - Omnitracs appointed Ray Greer as CEO. Greer takes over for John Graham who served as Omnitracs CEO since 2013. Most recently Greer served as President of BNSF Logistics.

Ipswitch, Massachusetts - Ipswitch announced Michael Grossi as the company’s new CEO. Grossi was previously Ipswitch’s Chief Growth Officer.

Millennium Health, California - Millennium Health named Andrew A. Lukowiak, Ph.D. as CEO. Most recently served as the COO and interim-CEO of a privately held precision medicine company.

Lithium Technologies, California - Board member Pete Hess has been named CEO as successor to Rob Tarkoff. Hess was former CEO of Advent Software. Following its acquisition 2015, he has served Vista Equity Partners as a Senior Advisor and member of the Lithium Board.

Bracket Global, Pennsylvania - Bracket appointed Michael P. Nolte as CEO. Former CEO of Influence Health.

Indeed, Texas - Indeed appointed Hisayuki Idekoba as CEO. Former exec at Recruit Holdings.

dinCloud, California - dinCloud announced its acquisition by Premier BPO and the appointment of Mark Briggs as its new CEO. Briggs is CEO of Premier BPO.

DocuTech Corporation, Idaho - Docutech has named president and COO Amy Brandt as its new CEO.

Rhapsody International, Washington - Bill Patrizio has been appointed president and CEO. Patrizio was appointed interim CEO of Napster in May 2017.

DialogTech, Illinois - DialogTech announced that COO Doug Kofoid has been appointed CEO. 

Scientific Learning Corporation, California - Scientific Learning names its lead independent director Jeffrey D. Thomas as its co-CEO. Thomas will join current Chairman and CEO Robert Bowen in leading the company. He served for over 11 years as CEO of the Ambassadors Group.

Titan Logix, Alberta, Canada - Titan Logix Corp. appointed Alvin Pyke, a current director of the company, as the new CEO of the company. He was formerly the President and CEO of Helical Pier Systems.

Saba Software, California - Saba Software announced Pervez Qureshi's retirement from the role of CEO. Phil Saunders, Saba's President, will immediately assume the role of President and CEO.

International Decision Systems, Minnesota - International Decision Systems appointed David Hamilton as CEO. Hamilton is the former President of SunGard Financial System’s Global Banking business.

Influence Health, Alabama - Influence Health has promoted CTO Rupen Patel to the position of CEO. Patel, who has been with the company about a year, will be replacing Mike Nolte, who will be returning to the clinical sector.

Doppio Group, California - William Charles Kragie was elected to serve as CEO. Kragie has served Doppio Group since 2015 as the Director of Business Development.  

Europe, Middle East & Africa

AVEVA Group, United Kingdom - AVEVA Group named Craig Hayman as CEO, to replace James Kidd who is moving to become deputy CEO and CFO. At PTC, Hayman was COO.

windeln.de, Germany - Former Amazon exec and ecommerce veteran Matthias Peuckert is the new designated CEO.

StrongPoint, Norway - Jacob Tveraabak is StrongPoint's next CEO. From 2016,  Tveraabak was the CEO of Miklagruppen (Bavaria Nordic). 

accesso Technology Group, United Kingdom - Royce Paul Noland will succeed Steve Brown as CEO. Noland is a leader in the leisure industry, who currently heads the heads the international trade association for amusement facilities and attractions worldwide at IAAPA.

Paradox Interactive, Sweden - Board member Ebba Ljungerud is new CEO for the company. Ebba has been a member of the Board of Paradox Interactive for 4 years and is the current Chief Commercial Officer at Kindred Group.

Avanti Communications Group, United Kingdom - Kyle Whitehill will join Avanti as CEO. Kyle joins Avanti from Liquid Telecom Group, where he has been CEO of Liquid Telecom, South Africa since March 2017.

Dolphin Integration, France - Dolphin Integration appointed Christian Dupont as CEO. Former CEO of the Varioptic (electro-optics) startup, and former CEO of poLight in Norway (MEMS Auto-Focus). 

Edgeware AB, Sweden - Edgeware AB announced that Karl Thedéen was appointed as CEO. Former CEO of Transmode AB and is currently a board member of Edgeware.

Neonode, Sweden - Neonode  announced that Håkan Persson has been appointed as new CEO of Neonode. He was recently CEO of Precise Biometrics AB.

Intrasense Société anonyme, France - Intrasense appointed Nicolas Reymond CEO. Reymond formerly Director of Business Development and Partnerships of Intrasense, brings his diverse experience of the medical software industry. 

Futurice, Finland - Futurice has appointed Teemu Moisala as its new CEO ahead of a planned international expansion. Teemu Moisala is currently managing director of Futurice Finland.

Intelligent Apps, Germany - mytaxi announced that Marc Berg will join as the new CEO. Berg is currently the CEO, DACH of Klarna Group the leading provider of secured online payment services in Europe.

Kezzler, Norway - Kezzler AS appointed Christine Charlotte Akselsen as the company’s new CEO. Christine was most recently the CEO of a high-growth outdoors product company, Sweet Protection.

Asia Pacific 

HCL Infosystems, India - HCL Infosystems has appointed Mr. Rangarajan Raghavan as Director and Managing Director. His current role is president – project and services.

21Vianet Group, China - 21Vianet Group announced that Mr. Shiqi Wang has been appointed Co-CEO and President of the Company. Wang currently serves as Vice President of TUS Digital Group.

Hindustan Media Ventures, India - Rajeev Beotra is now CEO and KMP. Beotra has over 24 years' of rich and varied working experience, and managed the Digital revenues for Hotstar for Sports properties, etc.

Polaris, Singapore - Polaris named Carl Johan Pontus Sonnerstedt as Executive Director and CEO. Former CEO of PT Bayon Management.

RightShip, Australia - RightShip has appointed Martin Crawford-Brunt as its CEO. Crawford-Brunt worked for DNV GL as its business development manager - West Europe and Africa.

Shenzhen Mingwah Aohan High Technology Corporation, China - Zhang Tao, an existing executive Director, a chairman of the Board, has been appointed as the CEO.

Datapulse Technology, Singapore - Datapulse Technology appointed Wilson Teng Wai Leung as Executive Director and CEO. Former VP, Sales and Business Development of iAdvantage.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.
