In this newsletter, we report on Software Board & Exec  Leadership Moves from September 24th to December 12th, 2017. They are roughly organized by size.

Microsoft Elects Former US Secretary of Commerce as Newest Board Member. Entrepreneur, civic leader and philanthropist and former United States Secretary of Commerce Penny S. Pritzker, 58, joins as director of Microsoft.

SAP Names COO Christian Klein, 37, to Executive Board to Lead Global Business Operations. 

Adobe Promotes Scott Belsky, 37, to Product Chief and EVP, Creative Cloud. Scott Belsky is the former VP of Products at Adobe, leading the Creative Cloud mobile product strategy.

Salesforce Promotes Two Execs to Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Product Officer: Alexandre Dayon, 49, President and Chief Product Officer at Salesforce, was named President and Chief Strategy Officer. Bret Taylor, 37, founder and CEO of acquired Quip, is named President and Chief Product Officer. 

Diane B. Greene, 62, decided to step down from the Board of Intuit. She will not stand for re-election at Intuit’s annual meeting of stockholders in January 2018 and will continue to serve on the Board until that time. Greene was co-founder and the CEO of VMware from 1998 until 2008. She is the CEO for Google's cloud businesses, and also serves on the company’s board of directors. 

Intuit Creates Chief Product and Design Officer Role. Intuit named Diego Rodriguez as EVP, chief product and design officer. He joins from IDEO where he was a partner and global managing director. He brings deep experience in design thinking, entrepreneurship and innovation.

Electronic Arts Names New Board Member Heidi Ueberroth, 51, former President of NBA International.

Micro Focus International Appoints Lawton Wehle Fitt, 64, as a Non-Executive Director. Lawton currently serves on the boards of Ciena, The Progressive Corporation and The Carlyle Group. Lawton worked at Goldman Sachs for over 23 years, with roles in the bank's investment banking, equities and asset management divisions.

Cadence Design Systems Hires New President. Anirudh Devgan, 47, EVP and general manager of the Digital & Signoff Group and the System & Verification Group, has been appointed President at Cadence.

Splunk Promotes Chief Revenue Officer Susan St. Ledger, 52, to President, Worldwide Field Operations. 

The Sage Group plc Appoints its Current President as Board Member. D. Blair Crump, 56, joined the board as an executive director. Crump joined the for the accounting software maker in August 2016 as President.

SS&C Technologies Hires CV Channagiri as CIO. He is former CTO and SVP at North Mill Equipment Finance.

Cyber Software Firm Fortinet Appoints Peter Cohen, AWS Founding Member, to Board. 

Nutanix Hires from Cisco, PeopleSoft to the Boards and Execs from Informatica, F5, Cisco & Other Companies: (1) The enterprise cloud software company for hyper-converged infrastructure appliances and software-defined storage named Craig Conway, 62, and Sue Bostrom, 57, to Board of Directors. Conway served as President and CEO of PeopleSoft. Bostrom served as EVP, CMO and Worldwide Government Affairs of Cisco Systems and held various leadership positions at Cisco. (2) Ben Gibson, 49, joined the Nutanix executive team as CMO. Most recently he was CMO at F5 Networks.  (3) Tyler Wall named as Chief Legal Officer. Wall brings more than two decades of executive experience across the full spectrum of corporate legal responsibilities. Prior to joining Nutanix, Wall was SVP, General Counsel at Red Book Connect in San Francisco. (4) Lou Attanasio, 58, joins as chief revenue officer. Most recently, he was EVP and chief revenue officer at Informatica, where he was responsible for leading global sales efforts at the enterprise cloud data management company. (5) Inder Sidhu, 57, joined as EVP of Global Customer Success and Business Operations. Previously Sidhu worked as SVP of Strategy & Planning for Worldwide Sales at Cisco. (6) Nutanix appointed Sherry Lautenbach as SVP of Americas Sales. Her most recent role at IBM was as VP of Industry Solutions and Strategic Business Development in North America.

Guidewire Software Announces Go to Market & Customer Appointments: (1) The provider of core back-end software for property and casualty (P&C) insurance carriers announced that Scott Roza, 49, Chief Business Officer, is stepping down.  (2) Eileen Maier has been promoted to Chief Business Officer. Maier has been with Guidewire for 12 years, and her most recent role was SVP, Solution Consulting and Go to Market Delivery. (3) Steve Sherry, SVP of Worldwide Sales and a 12-year veteran of Guidewire, has been promoted to Chief Sales Officer. (4) In recognition of the importance of the growth of the company’s cloud solutions, Guidewire also promoted Alex Naddaff, 62, a 14-year veteran of the company, to Chief Cloud and Customer Success Officer from Chief Customer Officer.

athenahealth Hires New CFO from JDA, Makes Role Change for Senior Leader: (1) athenahealth announced that Marc A. Levine, 57, will join the company as EVP CFO and Treasurer. From November 2013 until December 2017, Levine, served as the EVP and CFO of JDA Software Group. (2) John A. Jack" Kane will step down as iCFO and will continue to serve as a member of the Board.  (3) Stephen N. Kahane, M.D., M.S., 59, will reduce his duties and responsibilities at athenahealth due to a serious family illness. Accordingly, he will step down from his current role as EVP and President of the Client Organization and will serve as an Executive Director in the Client Organization. Dr. Kahane will no longer serve as an executive officer.

Paycom Software CIO Leaves; Role is now Open: (1) CIO William X. Kerber III, 42, has departed from the company. Due to personal reasons, Kerber has decided to step down from his responsibilities at Paycom to focus on his family.  (2) Two of Paycom’s senior technology leaders, Brad Smith and Shane Hadlock, will work together to assume Kerber’s responsibilities until his successor is named. Smith, Paycom’s Director of Software Development, has over 12 years of service with the company, while Hadlock, Paycom’s Director of Information Technology, has served in his capacity for the last five years.

Tom Beaudoin Returns to Nuance Communications as EVP, Business Transformation. Tom Beaudoin, 64, has been named as EVP, Business Transformation. Beaudoin returns to Nuance after two years, where he served as CFO for SimpliVity and helped orchestrate its successful sale to HP Enterprise.

Blackbaud Promotes veteran Jay Odell as President and General Manager of Enterprise Nonprofit Unit. Odell is a 13-year company veteran and formerly VP for Blackbaud's General Markets Business Unit.

Software AG Appoints North America President & COO Kevin Niblock to Extended Executive Board. 

Proofpoint Names Google VP Kristen Gill to its Board.The enterprise security company appointed Kristen L. Gil to the Board. Gil is VP, Business Operations & Strategy of Google.

Pegasystems Promotes Steven Gross as VP of North America Sales. The customer engagement and operational excellence software firm appointed Steven Gross as VP of North America sales. In his most recent role as area VP, he was responsible for a multi-million dollar business segment.

Zendesk Appoints Workday Exec to Board; VC Steps Down as Director: (1) Newest Board Member Mike Frandsen, 55, is currently EVP of Products, Support & Delivery at Workday.  (2) Zendesk’s acknowledged the service of its longtime director, venture capitalist Peter Fenton, 45, is leaving the board.

Zynga Hires  Chief People Officer from GoPro and Chief Legal Officer from Tesla: (1) Zynga appointed Jeff Ryan as Chief People Officer. Ryan served as SVP of People at GoPro, the action camera and content company. (2) Phuong Phillips has been named Chief Legal Officer. Prior to joining Zynga, Phillips served as Associate General Counsel for Tesla. Phillips also currently serves as the Director of Operations for the Straubel Foundation.

Sophos Group plc Announces Resignation of Board Member & VC Salim Nathoo. Salim Nathoo, 46, a Partner of Apax Partners, has stepped down as a non-executive director of Sophos.

2U Appoints Valerie Jarrett to Board of Directors, announces two new senior leadership hires: (1) Valerie Jarrett, 61, is a respected and acclaimed civic leader, business executive and attorney who most recently held the role of the longest-serving senior advisor to President Barack Obama where she oversaw the Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs and chaired the White House Council on Women and Girls. Prior to joining the Obama Administration, Jarrett was CEO of The Habitat Company, a real estate development and management company. (2) John Dobbertin joins the company as its first SVP of retention and engagement and Adora Andy Jenkins will take on the newly created role of VP of communications and engagement. Dobbertin joins 2U from Helix Education where he served as chief operating officer. Jenkins joins the company after nearly four years as SVP of external affairs at the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI).

HubSpot Appoints Jill Ward, 57, to Board of Directors - Inbound marketing & sales software firm HubSpot named seasoned business executive Jill Ward to board. Most recently, Jill served as President, COO, and CEO-elect of Fleetmatics. 

Cloudera Appoints Rosemary Schooler to its Board. Schooler is VP and General Manager of Global Internet of Things (IoT) Sales for Intel. 

Cornerstone OnDemand MD, Silver Lake joins the Board along with a Strategic Investment; the Company Welcomes frmr Jive Exec as New President of Global Field Operations. (1) The cloud-based learning and talent management solutions provider appointed Joseph Osnos, 39, to the Board. Osnos is Managing Director of Silver Lake Partners, the global leader in technology investing which made a $300 million strategic investment in Cornerstone, along with LinkedIn. (2) Jeff Lautenbach, 48, joins as the company’s new president of global field operations. Lautenbach most recently served as president of worldwide field operations at Jive Software.

Cloud-Based Accounting Software Firm BlackLine Appoints SolarWinds CEO to Board; Hires New Strategy Chief . (1) Kevin Thompson, 52, CEO of SolarWinds, has joined BlackLine's board of directors. (2) BlackLine has also appointed Tammy Coley as chief strategy officer. Formerly executive director, Enterprise Accounting and Internal Controls Governance at leading broadband communications company and long-time BlackLine customer Cox Communications.

CFO of Spredfast Lynn Atchison joins Cloud-based digital banking solutions firm Q2 Holdings as Board Member & other Hires. (1) New Board Member Lynn Atchison is CFO of Spredfast , the leading independent social marketing software provider. Former CFO of HomeAway.  (2) Q2 also announced the resignation of Battery Ventures Partner, Michael M. Brown, 45, as a Board Member. (3) Christine Petersen, a former FIS exec, has joined the company as chief revenue officer. (4) Travis Arthur, former VP of marketing at Rackspace, joined as VP of marketing. 

Mimecast Appoints Juniper CCO Geraldine Elliott, 60, to its Board - Email security software company Mimecast announced Geraldine (Gerri) Elliott, 60, former Chief Customer Officer of Juniper Networks and founder of, has joined its board.

xSAP & Infor Paul Carreiro Joins Supply Chain Solutions Company Kinaxis as Chief Revenue Officer. Carreiro comes to Kinaxis with more than two decades of leadership experience in the supply chain and enterprise software industry, having previously held senior roles at SAP and Infor, where he was most recently the President and Managing Director, EMEA.

CyberSecurity Co. Imperva Announces Resignation of Charles Giancarlo from Board of Directors. (1) Charles Giancarlo, 60, resigns as Imperva’s Director, in connection with his appointment as CEO of Pure Storage. (2) Aaron Kuan will replace Terry Schmid, who resigned as CFO to pursue other interests. Aaron Kuan, the company’s VP of Financial Planning and Analysis, has been named interim CFO. 

MongoDB Names Dan Heasman as Chief People Officer: Heasman joins MongoDB with more than 20 years of culture and HR leadership working with some of the companies in the world such as Coca Cola, Illumina and Pfizer. As a founding partner of The Rise Group, a leadership consulting firm, Heasman worked closely with the MongoDB leadership team for the last two and half years. 

Cloud Call Center Software Company Five9 Chair & CEO becomes Chairman, CFO named iCEO: (1) Five9 announced that Mike Burkland, 54, Chairman, President and CEO, has informed the company’s board of directors that he will be transitioning from his roles as CEO and President to become executive chairman of the board in order to focus more of his time on his health and family. In October, Burkland was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and will be undergoing aggressive treatment over the next several months. (2) Barry Zwarenstein, the company’s CFO, to the additional post of Interim CEO while a search for a permanent CEO commences.  (3) Dan Burkland, EVP of Global Sales and Services, has been promoted to President. 

Talend S.A. Board Member Resigns. Former CEO of Business Objects, Bernard Liautaud, 55, has resigned from the Board of Talend, the software integration vendor.

Quotient Technology Appoints CIO Michelle Mckenna-Doyle, 51, to its Board. McKenna-Doyle has served as SVP and CIO of the NFL since September 2012. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of RingCentral and comScore.

Quality Systems Onboards New General Counsel . The health IT software firm appointed Jeffrey D. Linton as EVP, General Counsel, and Secretary. Linton, bringing extensive healthcare experience, will oversee all legal-related matters of NextGen Healthcare. He assumes the role from Jocelyn Leavitt, who has been serving as general counsel since June 2013. Most recently, Linton served as General Counsel and Secretary of Applied Proteomics.

Revenue Management SaaS Software Provider PROS Hires CMO from Epicor and EVP, Worldwide Sales from NICE. (1) Celia Fleischaker joined as CMO. She most recently served as Chief Marketing Officer and EVP for Epicor Software. (2) Tom F. Dziersk named EVP, Worldwide Sales. In this newly created role, Dziersk will lead PROS global sales teams and sales operations. He most recently served as President of the Americas for NICE.

Benefitfocus Promotes President to CEO. (1) Ray August, 55, was named CEO. August will also retain the title of President.   (2) As part of the transition, the Board also appointed Benefitfocus Founder and current CEO, Shawn Jenkins, 50, to the new position of Senior Advisor for Innovation.

Security Services Co. SecureWorks Looks for a New CRO & Appoints New PAO: (1) Jason Capitel is no longer employed as Chief Revenue Officer of the company. (2) On an interim basis, the company has elevated Jeffrey Longoria, a 7-year veteran of Secureworks, to lead North America and Ian Bancroft, the company’s EMEA leader, to lead EMEA and APJ. These individuals, alongside the company’s VP of Sales Engineering, Ryan Davidsen, will report directly to the CEO until a new CRO is found. (3) Miller will succeed Henry Lyon in that position and as the Company's principal accounting officer. Miller previously served at YP Holdings, a digital and print marketing company, as EVP, Finance-Chief Accounting Officer and Treasurer.

LivePerson Announces Resignation CFO. CFO Daniel R. Murphy will resign from all of his positions with the messaging & bots platform provider. Murphy will stay on into early 2018 to assist the company in effecting an orderly transition.

Vasco Data Security International Appoints CHRO. Cybersecurity firm VASCO® Data Security International appointed Tracy McCarthy as CHRO. McCarthy joins VASCO from SAVO Group.

Synchronoss Technologies Hires New CEO from AT&T Mobility & Splits Chairman / CEO Role: (1) Glenn Lurie, 50, has been appointed CEO and a member of its Board. Most recently served as President and CEO of AT&T’s Mobility and Consumer Operations until his retirement from the company in September 2017. (2) Lurie succeeds Stephen Waldis, 49, who will remain Chairman of the Synchronoss Board of Directors.

MobileIron Promotes CFO to CEO; Appoints iCFO; and Hires CA Tech. Exec as SVP Sales. (1) MDM and enterprise mobility services firm MobileIron has appointed CFO Simon Biddiscombe, 50, as President, CEO, and member of the board. Simon Biddiscombe has served as CFO of MobileIron since 2015 and has held numerous leadership positions including CEO and CFO of QLogic, CFO at Mindspeed Technologies, and CFO and COO of Wyle Electronics. (2) Former CEO Barry Mainz, 53, will leave the company.  (3) Shawn Ayers, VP of Finance, will serve as interim CFO, and the company has opened a search to fill the CFO position.  (4) Greg Randolph is joining the company as SVP Worldwide Sales. Prior to joining MobileIron, he spent more than eight years at CA Technologies, serving most recently as the SVP & GM of Global Sales for CA Technologies Enterprise Cyber Security business. 

Antivirus Software Co. Quick Heal Sales Leader Steps Down From Executive Role; Stays on Board. Quick Heal Technologies announced that Abhijit Jorvekar, 43, Head of Sales and Executive Director of the Company has stepped down from Executive capacity. Jorvekar will however continue to be a Non-Executive Director of the Company thus continuing his relationship and providing valuable experience and expertise to the Company.

Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
