Qualcomm Expands Exec’s Role to Include CTO Responsibilities

Qualcomm, a wireless communication components company, announced the appointment of Matt Grob as EVP and CTO. In addition to his new responsibilities, Grob will continue to lead Qualcomm's Corporate R&D division and provide oversight to Qualcomm’s Corporate Engineering Services. Grob joined Qualcomm in 1991 as an engineer.

Honeywell Promotes Division CIO

Honeywell, an industrial automation and manufacturing company, announced that Mike Lang, 47, has been named VP and CIO. Lang was most recently VP and CIO of Honeywell's $15 billion Automation and Control Solutions (ACS) business. Prior to Honeywell, Lang served in a variety of leadership positions at GE, most recently as global CTO for the Insurance Solutions business. Prior to joining GE, Lang worked at Diebold and Westfield Companies.

Time Warner Creates New Role of SVP & CIO; Time Warner Cable Names New SVP, Tech

Time Warner announced that Bill Krivoshik will assume the newly created role of SVP & CIO. Most recently, Krivoshik served as the first enterprise-wide CIO at Marsh & McLennan and as the CTO at Thomson Financial. He also held the titles of CTO at Citigroup's Global Investment Management group and CIO at AIG.

Also, Time Warner Cable has selected Matthew Zelesko to be the SVP of Web Services & Technology. Prior to Time Warner Cable, Zelesko held executive and engineering management positions at several media companies, including Joost and Comcast. Prior to Joost, Zelesko was VP of Engineering for Comcast Interactive Media (CIM).

Polycom Names New Chief Technologist

Polycom, a video conferencing equipment company, announced that Sean Lessman has been appointed as Chief Technologist for the Worldwide Public Sector team. He joins Polycom from Cisco, where he most recently served as VP of Technology for its Public Sector practice and also worked in the office of the CTO.

CIO Departure at Harris

Harris Interactive, a market research services company, announced that Enzo Micali, 51, the CIO and Global EVP of Technology, Operations and Panel, is leaving the company.

Medical Products Distribution Company Recruits New CIO

Patterson Companies announced that Ranell Hamm, 49, was named CIO of the company. Prior to joining Patterson, she was Senior Director of Clinical Information Delivery for UnitedHealth Group.

Ex-Microsoft GM Joins Allscripts as CIO

John Guevara has joined Allscripts, a healthcare IT company, as the newly appointed CIO. Prior to Allscripts, Guevara served as a GM at Microsoft. Before Microsoft, he was Global CIO at Intermec, CIO at Delphi, and VP and Group Director of Siemens’ Business Services (SBS).

Interim CIO Selected at Power Company

Atlantic Power announced the appointment of Charles Poppe as interim CIO. He most recently served as CIO for Goldman Sachs’ independent power subsidiary, Cogentrix Energy.

Ex-CIGNA Techie at Insurance Company

Harleysville Group announced the appointment of Arne Herenstein as SVP and CIO. Before coming to Harleysville, he was VP of IT for OneBeacon Insurance. Prior to that, he served in IT leadership roles at CIGNA, PWC and Royal Insurance.

Microsoft Veteran at Venture Capital Firm

Safeguard Scientifics announced that Philip Moyer has joined the company as MD of the Technology Group. He is a former member of the Safeguard Scientifics Technology Advisory Board. He most recently served as the President and CEO at EDGAR Online. Before this, he spent more than a decade in various senior level positions at Microsoft, including GM of the Professional Services Industry, GM of Global Customers, and Global Manager of Enterprise Services and Partners for the U.S. East Region. Moyer began his career at GE Aerospace as a software developer. 

Technology Professor Joins Computer Services Company

ChinaCache International Holdings announced that Dr. Bo Li, a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, is joining the company as Chief Technology Consultant. Li has previously worked with the IBM Networking System Division and Microsoft Research Asia.

Chip Maker Promotes SVP to CTO

Vimicro International announced the promotion of Yundong Zhang from SVP to CTO. Since joining the company in 2001, he has worked on Vimicro's multimedia-processor technology, the national SVAC standard, and the security and surveillance technology business.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
