Largest Tech Companies Readjusting Board and Leadership Teams: Microsoft, Intel, eBay, Netflix, Fiserv & More

Board Appointments and Departures at Giant Tech Companies
Activist Investor Not to Seek Re-Election to Microsoft Board; PepsiCo CFO to Join as Director. D. Mason Morfit, 41, ValueAct Capital’s President and Chief Investment Officer, will not seek re-election to Microsoft’s board. Hugh Johnston, 55, vice chairman and CFO of PepsiCo, joins as Director.

Intel elected Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts, to board; Senior Leader Stacy Smith to Retire from Executive as well as Board Role. Wilson, 43, joined EA in May 2000, and has served as the company’s CEO and a director of EA since September 2013. 
Smith, 54, group president of manufacturing, operations and sales, is retiring after more than 30 years at the company. Smith will stay on board through the end of January.

Executive Chairman John Chambers, 68, not to stand for re-election to Cisco’s Board. CEO-Chair Roles Combined. The Board plans to appoint Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins, 49, to serve as chairman when Chambers' term expires in December 2017. John will also be given the honorary title of Chairman Emeritus. Chuck Robbins assumed the role as Cisco CEO in 2015. 

PayPal Appoints Rodney C. Adkins as Board Member. Adkins, 58, is President of 3RAM Group. Prior to 3RAM Group, he spent more than 30 years at IBM, where he most recently served as SVP, Corporate Strategy.

TCS’ Board Member Ishaat Hussain Steps Down. Hussain, 70, has ceased to be a Director as per the retirement age policy for Directors of the Company.

Salesforce Gets Influential Health Care Exec to Board. Bernard J. Tyson, 58, chairman and CEO of Kaiser Permanente, joined Salesforce’s board.

Altaba appointed Richard L. Kauffman as an independent director. Kauffman is currently the Chairman of Energy & Finance for New York State, overseeing New York State entire energy portfolio. In addition, he has served as chairman of the Board of Levi Strauss & Co.

eBay Appoints Adriane Brown and Diana Farrell to its Board. Ms. Brown currently is an advisor with Intellectual Ventures, where she previously served as President and COO. Before that, she held a number of roles at Honeywell International. Ms. Farrell is the Founding President and CEO at JPMorgan Chase Institute, a global think tank. Farrell also served as the Deputy Director of the National Economic Council and the Deputy Economic Advisor to the President under the Obama Administration.  

Carl Bass, 60, member of the Board of Directors of HP Inc. will be stepping down. Former president and CEO of Autodesk. 

Cerner Announces New Chairman after Sudden Demise of Chair/CEO Neal Patterson. Cerner announced that Neal Patterson, chairman and CEO, passed away on July 9, 2017, at 68 years of age, due to unexpected complications that arose after a recent recurrence of a previously disclosed cancer. Cerner Co-Founder and Vice Chairman of the Board Cliff Illig, 66, has been named chairman and interim CEO.

Charles Giancarlo Resigns as ServiceNow Director. In connection with his appointment as CEO of Pure Storage, Charles Giancarlo, 60, resigned from the Board of ServiceNow. Former Avaya CEO. 

Red Hat Announces New Chairman. Narendra K. Gupta, 68, co-founder of Nexus Venture Partners and long time director named as Chairman of the board. Succeeds retired U.S. Army Gen. H. Hugh Shelton, 75, who recently retired as chairman. 

Constellation Software’s New Board Member Comes with Corporate Governance, Corporate Culture, And Corporate Law Preeminence. Constellation Software’s newest board member is Lawrence Cunningham, 55, Henry St. George Tucker III Research Professor at George Washington University Law School. 

Palo Alto Networks Gets Google Exec as Director. Sridhar Ramaswamy joined the Board. Ramaswamy serves as Google’s SVP Ads & Commerce, a position he has held since March 2013.  

Tesla CFO Leaves FireEye’s Board; ADC Vet Joins. Tesla CFO Deepak Ahuja, 54, notified FireEye of his decision to resign from the Board. ADC veteran Robert Switz, 71, has been appointed to the board. 

Twitter Replaces Hugh Johnston on Board. Twitter board member Hugh Johnston, Pepsi vice chairman and CFO, left Twitter’s board to join Microsoft’s board. The micro-blogging company named Patrick Pichette, a former CFO of Google, as new Board Member.  

Citrix Appoints 30+ year Software and Technology Industry Veteran as Director. Citrix Systems elected Dr. Ajei S. Gopal, 55, President and CEO for ANSYS, to board. 

Square Announces Naveen Rao to its Board. Naveen Rao, Corporate VP and GM of the Artificial Intelligence Products Group at Intel, has joined Square’s Board of Directors.  

Splunk’s Newest Board Members Bring Valuable Perspectives and Diverse Experience in Leadership Roles.  Splunk named Sara Baack, 45, CMO of Equinix, and Elisa Steele, 50, former CEO and president of Jive Software, to its Board. Long-standing director David Hornik has retired from the Board. 

Technology Innovator Joins PTC Board. PTC appointed Dr. Corinna Lathan, CEO, Co-Founder, and Board Chair of AnthroTronix, as newest board member. 

athenahealth Taps New Board Member. athenahealth appointed Brian McKeon, 55, current CFO of IDEXX Laboratories, to its Board. 


Most Important Leadership Changes at Biggest Players in Tech 

Apple’s General Counsel Changes. Katherine Adams, formerly SVP and general counsel of Honeywell, will join Apple as general counsel and SVP of Legal and Global Security. Bruce Sewell, Apple’s general counsel since 2009, will be retiring at the end of the year. 

Facebook Launches Artificial Intelligence Research Lab in Montreal; Appoints Joelle Pineau as Head of the Lab. Pineau is a professor in McGill University's computer science department and co-director of Reasoning and Learning Lab. 

Google hired Cathy Fogler as head of sales and marketing at Google Access. Fogler succeeded Christina Wire who joined YouTube as a VP. 

Verizon’s Multiple Management Changes. Marni Walden will step down as EVP and president of Global Media in February 2018. Rima Qureshi, former president and CEO of Ericsson North America, has been named EVP and chief strategy officer for Verizon Communications. She will succeed Roy Chestnutt, who previously announced plans to pursue interests outside Verizon, and will depart by the end of the year. George (Brady) Connor, currently president and chief investment officer of Verizon Investment Management Corp. (VIMCO) and head of Verizon Capital Group (VCG), has been named to lead Investor Relations for Verizon Communications. He will succeed Mike Stefanski, who announced his plans to retire before the end of the year. 

IBM and MIT to Establish New MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab; Announces Management Appointments. The lab will be co-chaired by IBM Research VP of AI and IBM Q, Dario Gil, and Anantha P. Chandrakasan, dean of MIT's School of Engineering. 

SAP Appoints EMEA and APAC Leaders. SAP appointed Brian Duffy Head of Global Strategic Initiatives, as EMEA North Regional President and Claus Andresen as President and Managing Director of SAP Southeast.  Former COO, SAP Indian Subcontinent. 

Deutsche Telekom Announces Resignation of Reinhard Clemens as Board Member in Charge of T-Systems. Clemens is leaving the company, and a new head of the unit will take over from the start of 2018.  

Netflix Appoints Melissa Cobb as VP, Kids and Family. Cobb joins Netflix from DreamWorks, where most recently she was Chief Creative Officer and Head of Studio for Oriental DreamWorks.  

Accenture Announces Multiple Management Changes. Roxanne Taylor chief marketing & communications officer, will retire from the company at the end of the fiscal year. Amy Fuller will join Accenture from Deloitte, where she was senior managing director of global brand, and succeed Taylor as Accenture's chief marketing & communications officer. Jodie Wallis named as managing director for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Canada and Giorgio Migliarina named as Communications & Media Industry Lead for Asia-Pacific.

Derek Aberle to Leave Qualcomm as President. Aberle has decided to leave the company after a successful 17-year career during which he served as President of company. EVP and QTL president Alex Rogers, who has run QTL since March 2016, will report directly to company CEO Steve Mollenkopf. 

Micron Technology Appoints Anand Jayapalan as VP of the Storage BU. Most recently, he served as VP, enterprise and client compute solutions marketing at Western Digital.  

Cognizant Appoints Ramkumar Ramamoorthy as Executive Director of India Operations. Ramamoorthy, who was previously SVP of corporate marketing, corporate affairs and communications, has been with the company for 19 years.  

eBay Announces Changes to Regional Leadership Team. eBay has appointed Scott Cutler, Jay Lee and Jooman Park to new regional leadership roles. Cutler has been promoted to SVP, Americas, for eBay's Marketplace business and will continue to serve as head of StubHub while the company searches for a new leader. Lee has been appointed SVP, EMEA. Lee joined eBay in 2002 and has been guiding the growth of eBay's portfolio of assets in Asia Pacific. Park has been promoted to SVP, APAC, for eBay's Marketplace business. Leading eBay Australia in 2013. Harry Lawton, SVP, North America is leaving the company.  

Intuit Announces CFO Succession Plan. Michelle Clatterbuck, SVP of Finance for Intuit’s Consumer Tax Group and acting finance leader for Intuit’s Small Business Group will replace Neil Williams, 64, as CFO in February 2018.  

BT Appoints Juni Yan as VP for Security in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. He is based in Hong Kong and previously worked for web app and security specialist F5 Networks, as managing director for Hong Kong and Taiwan. 

Analog Devices Appoints Prashanth Mahendra-Rajah as SVP, Finance and CFO. He currently serves as CFO of WABCO Holdings. 

Telenor Appoints Cecilie B. Heuch as EVP and Chief People Officer. She succeeds Jon Erik Haug. Heuch is joining the company from DNV GL Group, where she was CHRO. 

TE Connectivity Announces Retirement of Joseph B. Donahue as EVP and COO. He served as COO since 2011. Before that, he was President of Transportation Solutions. 

Sprint Announces lvo Rook as SVP of Internet of Things. Rook will join Sprint in January 2018. Rook has spent his last seven years at Vodafone, most recently as CEO for Vodafone's IoT Business.  

Fiserv named Mark Paulek as CHRO. Paulek succeeds Kevin Pennington, who will now focus on other strategic company initiatives. Paulek joins Fiserv after having served as interim CHRO at The Chamberlain Group.  

Altice USA Announces Leadership Appointments. EVP and CTO Terry Cordova has been promoted to vice chairman, business development Network & Technology Services, and Philippe Le May has been named CTO. Le May joined Altice France in 2006, serving since 2008 as its CTO.  

Capgemini named Infosys Exec Ananth Chandramouli as the new Head of Local Business Services (LBS) for India and the Middle East. Chandramouli takes over from Kishor Chitale who moves to a new role in the Asia Pacific region and will be responsible for building the cloud services strategy and roadmap for Capgemini in APAC and the Middle East.  

Ericsson Appoints Niklas Heuveldop as Head of Market Area North America. In addition to his current role as Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Technology & Emerging Business, he has also been Acting Head of Market Area North America since May 2017.  

ZTE Corporation’s CFO Changes.  Wei Zaisheng, Executive Director, EVP and CFO has resigned. He will be re-designated as Non-executive Director. Shao Weilin was elected EVP and CFO. 

Troy Mattern Joins Motorola Solutions as Head of Cybersecurity for Products and Services. Mattern was previously VP of cybersecurity for Zurich Insurance company. 

Changes in Micro Focus’ Leadership after Merger with HPE Software Business. Hewlett Packard Enterprise completed the spin-off and subsequent merger of its software business with Micro Focus International plc. In connection, John Schultz, EVP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of HPE, joined the board of directors of Micro Focus. Chris Hsu, formerly COO of HPE and EVP and GM of HPE Software, was appointed CEO of Micro Focus. Micro Focus CEO Stephen Murdoch has stepped down from the Board and has become the Chief Operating Officer of Micro Focus with effect from Completion. 

Palo Alto Networks Announces Management Changes. Steffan Tomlinson, the company’s EVP and CFO, notified the company of his intention to retire and resign. Lee Klarich was named as EVP, Chief Product Officer. Former EVP of Product Management, a role he held since November 2015.  

Pamela Joseph has resigned as President, COO, and Director of TSYS. M. Troy Woods will assume the additional role of TSYS President and the heads of the company's three business segments will report directly to him. TSYS also announced that Woods has committed to remain CEO of the company at least through the end of 2020. 

Symantec’s CAO Resigns. Mark Garfield resigned as SVP and Chief Accounting Officer of Symantec. Nicholas R. Noviello, the Company's EVP and CFO, assumed the responsibilities of Principal Accounting Officer. 

Shopify CFO to Retire in 2018. Shopify’s CFO Russ Jones will retire in 2018 and that he will continue to serve as CFO until a successor is found and has transitioned into the role. The company expects the transition process to be completed within the next 12 months. 

Citrix Announces Mark Ferrer as Chief Revenue Officer to Lead Global Sales and Services. Ferrer joins Citrix from SAP, where he has been the COO and EVP of SAP Global Customer Operations since 2011. 

Uber Technologies’ Leadership Shake-Up. Ryan Graves, 34, the first employee at Uber and a longtime board member, stepped down from his executive role. Stays on board. Uber selected Expedia chief Dara Khosrowshahi as new CEO. Uber's Head of Developer Platform, Chris Saad Resigned. 

Cadence Design Systems Gets New CFO.  John Wall, corporate VP of finance and corporate controller of Cadence, has been appointed SVP and CFO of Cadence. Geoff Ribar, current CFO of Cadence, will remain with the company as a senior advisor until his previously announced retirement at the end of March 2018. Cadence has also appointed Michelle Quejado as corporate controller. Ms. Quejado was most recently interim CFO at Zynga. 

Juniper Networks Appoints Kristian Kerr as Head of Channel, Alliances and Commercial for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Prior to joining the company, Kerr ran the EMEA partner organization for Brocade Communications.  

Broadridge Financial Solutions Appoints SVP of Corporate Strategy and President of International Sales. Michael Tae was named as SVP of Corporate Strategy. Most recently, Tae was the Senior EVP of Worldwide Services for Microstrategy. Bob Santangelo was named as President of International Sales, based out of the firm's London office. He was previously responsible for Broadridge's global Bank Broker-Dealer distribution channel. 

Splunk Promotes Senior Leader. Splunk promoted Susan St. Ledger to President, Worldwide Field Operations. St. Ledger has served as the company’s Chief Revenue Officer since May 2016. 

Chief Accounting Officer, Sebastien Giroux, will be leaving the Atlassian to pursue another opportunity outside of the company. Murray Demo, the company's CFO, will replace Giroux as Chief Accounting Officer. 

Akamai Technologies Announced a Planned Succession in Leadership within Legal Organization. Aaron Ahola, Akamai's Deputy General Counsel will succeed Melanie Haratunian as SVP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. Haratunian is retiring after 14 years as Akamai's General Counsel. 

SS&C Technologies Appoints CIO and Promotes Alternative Assets SVP to EVP. CV Channagiri was named as CIO for SS&C. Rahul Kanwar, SVP and MD of Alternative Assets, was promoted to EVP. 

Sabre Corporation Names Vish Saoji as CTO. Sabre had previously announced Joe DiFonzo as its new CIO, creating two senior executive positions dedicated to technology management. With Saoji's hiring, Sabre has completed filling its senior leadership team in conjunction with Sean Menke assuming the role of CEO in December 2016. 

Avaya Names Geographic Leaders. Avaya Names Sami Ammous as Managing Director ASEAN. Previously led the Sales Engineering organization in Asia Pacific. Avaya also appointed two new area VPs for the U.S. Theater - Bruce Rosen joins from Newport Strategy Advisors and Jim Haigh comes from Microsoft. They will lead sales strategies for all segments of customers care, directly and through channel partners, account teams and operations in the Western and Southern areas, respectively. Fadi Hani is new VP for MEA & Turkey.
