Welcome to our Technology CEO Transitions Newsletter. We endeavour to catalogue all open technology CEO roles (as of 8/31/2017)  and latest appointments for the month of August 2017. 

Do let us know if you see any that we are missing! We love to find why we missed one and we will reverse engineer what sources we could have found.... 

The average length of time the searches are open is3.6 months, up from 2.97 months earlier this year. There is little variance across geographies.

By the numbers, overall:

  • Total Open CEO Roles: 41
  • New CEO Appointments: 37 CEOs (2 women or 5%, 35 men)

Overall

27% of the CEOs appointed were COOs or President or EVP - Operations, 5% were current board members, 8% were divisional execs, CFOs were 3%, 14% other internal executives and 43% external appointments.

 

 Diversity: 2 (5%) CEOs out of 37 total CEOs appointed were women.

The two longest CEO searches started in June and September 2016.

r Corporation, Missouri, July 2017 - Cerner Chair & CEO passes away. Vice Chair & Founder Cliff Illig  named Chair & iCEO.

HSN, Florida, April 2017 - CEO Mindy Grossman has resigned. The Board has established an Office of the CEO.

Lexmark International, Kentucky, June 2017 - President and CEO David Reeder has resigned for personal reasons. In the interim, Lexmark will be led by a management team consisting of Brock Saladin, SVP and chief revenue officer, and Allen Waugerman, SVP and CTO.

Nuance Communications, Massachusetts, November 2016 - Chairman and CEO Paul Ricci intends to retire at the end of first half of fiscal 2018.

John Wiley & Sons, New Jersey, May 2017 - President & CEO Mark J. Allin resigned. Chairman Matthew S. Kissner is now Interim CEO.

Cree, North Carolina, May 2017 - Chairman, President and CEO Chuck Swoboda intends to stay on until a successor is appointed.

Syniverse, Florida, August 2017 - Syniverse's President and CEO Stephen C. Gray retires in 2018. Gray will remain as CEO until the completion of the search process.

Ultra Clean Holdings, California, July 2017 - UCT SVP and CFO, Sheri Brumm will serve as acting CEO as President and CEO, Jim Scholhamer, will take leave of absence.

TiVo, California, May 2017 - President and CEO, Thomas Carson, intends to retire.

Yellow Pages Limited, QC, Canada, July 2017 - Yellow Pages President & CEO Julien Billot, has departed with CFO Ken Taylor being named as interim President and CEO. The company has commenced the process of identifying a permanent successor.

Ellucian, Virginia, July 2017 - Ellucian President/CEO Jeff Ray has retired. The company is in search for its next CEO. 

GlassBridge Enterprises (fka Imation), Minnesota, February 2017 - CFO Danny Zheng is serving as Interim CEO until the company Board appoints a new CEO. 

CPI Card Group, Colorado, April 2017 - CEO and President Steve Montross will be retiring. 

Brightcove, Massachusetts, July 2017 - Cloud video platform Brightcove's President and COO Andrew Feinberg, is iCEO.

Marchex, Washington, October 2016 - Pete Christothoulou resigned as CEO in October last year. 

Edgewater Technology, Massachusetts, March 2017 - Chairman Jeffrey L. Rutherford is Interim President and CEO. 

Quarterhill (fka Wi-LAN), Ottawa, Canada, April 2017 - Shaun McEwan, CFO, will become Interim CEO. 

Numerex, Georgia, January 2017 - Numerex terminated the employment of Marc Zionts as CEO. CFO Kenneth Gayronis interim CEO.

Brekford, Maryland, November 2016 - Brekford entered into a separation agreement with C.B. Brechin, the company's CEO and CFO. 

Digiliti Money, Minnesota, August 2017 - Jeffrey Mack has resigned as President and CEO. EVP & CFO, Bryan Meier, will assume the position of interim CEO.

MMRGlobal, California, June 2017 - Robert H. Lorsch, Chairman, President and CEO of the company, died unexpectedly.

Lavu, New Mexico, June 2016 - Marc Chesley has stepped down as the CEO of Lavu. 

INTREorg Systems, Texas - June 2017 - David M. Beach tendered his resignation as president, CEO and a director. 

International Card Establishment, California, July 2017 - Payment company International Card Establishment appointed Kelani Long iCEO & Director.

Tinder, Texas, July 2017 - Greg Blatt will stay on as CEO of Tinder until a replacement is named. 

Kickstarter, New York, July 2017 - Kickstarter co-founder Yancey Strickler is stepping down as CEO of the innovative crowdfunding company later this year. Kickstarter is now actively looking for a replacement.

WolfePak Software, Texas, August 2017 - Financial and accounting software provider for oil and gas industry WolfePak Software founder and CEO Charlie Wolfe is stepping down as the CEO. In the interim, James Colony, a seasoned, innovative senior exec named the acting leader.

, Sweden, June 2017 - CEO Georgi Ganev, 41, will resign from Dustin Group, the leading re-seller of IT-products and additional services in the Nordics, to join as CEO of Kinnevik. Ganev will remain as CEO during his six months’ notice period.

Softcat Plc, UK, May 2017 - Martin Hellawell has decided to step down as CEO once a successor is in place at the IT infrastructure provider.

Solocal Group S.A., France, May 2017 –Jean-Pierre Remy, 53, resigned from his position as CEO and Director, to devote himself to an entrepreneurship project. No replacement announced at the digital local communication services company for general public and professionals in Europe.

Redcentric, United Kingdom, August 2017 - Redcentric plc announced that Fraser Fisher, CEO, has given notice of his resignation to pursue other business interests. Will continue until December 2017.

Pricer AB, Sweden, April 2017 - CFO Helena Holmgren, 41, has been appointed acting CEO until a new CEO has been recruited at the leading company in providing in-store digital shelf-edge solutions.

Avanti Communications, United Kingdom, August 2017 - CEO David Williams is stepping down. Alan Harper, currently a board non-executive director who joined in March 2017, who will assume the role of interim CEO.

Brady Plc, UK, September 2016 - After nine years at the commodity trading software company, CEO Gavin Lavelle, 57, has decided to pursue new opportunities. Ian Jenks will assume operational control of the company as executive chairman. 

1Spatial, UK, December 2016 - Claire Milverton, 42, CFO, is interim CEO at the company which is a leader in managing geospatial, gis & spatial data.

, India, August 2017 - Vishal Sikka, 50, has resigned as the MD and CEO of Infosys over differences with the founders on governance issues. COO UB Pravin Rao, 55, has been appointed as the interim CEO. Infosys appointed Egon Zehnder to help find Vishal Sikka's successor.

RapidCloud, Malaysia, March 2017 - The Board has appointed Chew Man Fai, 42, Executive Director, as interim CEO. The company has stopped trading on AIM. The company is a enterprise cloud computing services and web-solutions provider for Southeast Asia.

Tomizone, New Zealand, July 2017 – Business Intelligence HCM software company Tomizone CEO Geoff Wanless, 55, will step down from the role due to the changing nature and restructuring of the business.

Avaya, California - Avaya appointed COO & Global Sales Leader Jim Chirico as CEO.

GoDaddy, Arizona - GoDaddy CEO Blake Irving retires. Scott Wagner, GoDaddy's president and COO, will assume the CEO role upon Blake's departure.

Pandora Media, California - Pandora Media appointed Roger J. Lynch as CEO and president. Former CEO of Sling TV Holding.

Cardtronics, Texas - Steven A. Rathgaber will retire from his CEO and Director roles. Edward H. West CFO and COO, will succeed Rathgaber as CEO and Director.

Match Group, Texas - Match Group appointed Mandy Ginsberg, CEO of Match Group Americas, as CEO of Match Group.

Endurance International, Massachusetts - Endurance International Group appointed Jeffrey H. Fox, Convergys' CEO, to the role of President and CEO.

Pure Storage, California - Pure Storage has named Charles Giancarlo as CEO and Director. Previously served in senior executive roles at Silver Lake Partners and Cisco.

Imperva, California - Technology veteran Christopher Hylen, the former CEO of Citrix GetGo, joins as president and CEO and a member of the board.

Quotient Technology, California - Mir Aamir, the company’s current President and COO, named as President and CEO.

Click Sales, Idaho - ClickBank appointed Kevin Strawbridge as CEO. Former president of Motorsport Aftermarket Group's Retail Group.

AppFolio, California - Jason Randall will succeed Brian Donahoo as President and CEO. Most recently, SVP, AppFolio Property Manager, the Company’s software solution for the property management industry.

DealerSocket, California - DealerSocket announced that Sejal Pietrzak has joined the company as its new President and CEO. Former CAO at ACTIVE Network.

OneSource Virtual, Texas - OneSource Virtual (OSV) appointed president and COO Trey Campbell as its new CEO.

Millennium Health, California - Millennium Health appointed COO Jennifer Strickland, PharmD, BCPS, as CEO and Board Member.

Atlantix Global Systems; CXtec, New York - Cxtec and Atlantix Global Systems announced that Cxtec CEO Peter Belyea will be the CEO of the combined company.

Inventus, Texas - Trevor Campion will cease serving as the CEO of RPX's Inventus subsidiary. President Paul Mankoo will succeed Campion as CEO of Inventus.

Milestone Technologies, California - Milestone Technologies has promoted Nelson Eng to President and CEO. Most recently, Eng served as Chief Strategy and Chief Development Officer for CSC.

Intelligent Cloud Resources, Ontario, Canada - Intelligent Cloud Resources announced appointment of director Christopher Pay as President and CEO.

Verify Smart, Nevada - IP fraud protection company Verify Smart named Lou Pingitore as CEO. For the past three years, Lou has been leading the Dow Jones' transition to the public cloud. Lou has held several senior management positions as Director, CIO and President.

BRM Systems, Colorado - Cloud-based enterprise level billing software firm BillingPlatform appointed its Chief Revenue Officer Dennis Wall to CEO.

Medalogix, Tennessee - Heallthcare tech company Medalogix named its President Elliott Wood as CEO.

Blue Jeans Network, California - Industry veteran Quentin Gallivan will join as CEO of the cloud-based video collaboration services firm.

OneLogin, California - Brad Brooks has joined the company CEO. In his most recent role with DocuSign, Brooks served as Chief of Marketing, Product and Engineering.

Physical Enterprises, Vancouver, Canada - Mio Global announced Peter Taylor as CEO. Prior to joining Mio, Taylor was Global VP of Products at Belkin and General Manager of Wemo.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents.
